This article answers frequently asked questions about backing up data, storing backup data, and using backup data:
Fiix automatically aggregates, encrypts, and backs up data each night. However, these backups are saved for emergency purposes, and cannot be used to restore an individual CMMS.
Customers can also back up their own data. Most records view pages can be exported as a CSV file, which can be opened and viewed with a spreadsheet software. Customers on Enterprise plans can export all data as an SQL file, which can be opened and viewed using SQL-compatible database software. To learn more, see Export and save backup data.
CMMS data is stored in secure offsite locations to protect data against physical events like fires, earthquakes, and floods. The data is replicated across multiple databases in multiple geographic regions.
All information traveling between your device and the Fiix platform is secured with 256-bit SSL encryption. Additionally, Fiix uses firewalls, intrusion detection software, and physical security to protect the servers and your data.
To learn more, see Fiix's security policy.
Fiix cannot restore your CMMS from backup files.
When we back up data, it's stored in a form that is not usable for restoring individual CMMS tenants. In emergency cases, the data can be used to revert the entire database (all customer accounts) back to a point in time, but data backups can't be used to individually isolate and restore a client's CMMS.
Backup data is most often used for audit, data security, and business intelligence purposes, not for reset or restoration. If your team needs to save and access data, then regularly backing up CMMS data and securely storing it may be helpful.
Customers on the Enterprise plan can generate a database backup five times per month. This allows for a weekly backup schedule.
If you want to export your records without doing a full database backup, you can export them as CSV files. All customers on all plans can export their records manually, as often as necessary.
Database backups can only be run manually. To learn how to export your data or run a database backup, see Export and save backup data.
Database backup data is downloadable as a password-protected ZIP or SQL file, which can be saved on any storage device with enough space.
Exported records are saved as a CSV file and can also be saved on any storage device with enough space.
We recommend referring to your company's data retention policy to best use and store your backup data.
Exported backup data, whether downloaded as a CSV or SQL file, can be used to:
-
run analytics using a business intelligence suite like SAP BusinessObjects.
-
mine for deeper insights using an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software like Oracle ERP Cloud or NetSuite.
-
archive and save data, so it can be viewed in a spreadsheet or SQL-compatible software.
If you choose to leave Fiix, you can request your data up to 10 days after service termination. If your request is received in this window, Fiix will return your data in an SQL file, with a 2-hour minimum service charge. To learn more, see our Master service agreement.
You can also do a database export or records export before your account is deactivated. To learn more, see Export and save backup data.
