Before you begin
This feature is currently in testing. It will be rolled out in stages during the upcoming months and is not yet available to all customers.
Plans: Professional and Enterprise plans with multi-site configurations
Version: v6 User Management
Audience: Administrators, and users with the Edit users system role permission.
Users can be assigned to user groups at a region or site to receive its permissions, notifications, and assignments only at that specific region or site. Assign users to different user groups at individual regions or sites when they have different responsibilities in different locations of your organization.
When you assign a user to a user group in a region, they are assigned to all the regions and sites below (the “children” region and sites). This may result in a region permission conflict.
In this article:
- Assign a user to a user group in a specific region (edit user access)

Assign a user to a user group in a specific region (edit user access)
You can use these same steps to assign, edit, or unassign (remove) users from a user group at a region or site.
To assign a user to a user group in a specific region (edit user access):
- Navigate to Settings > Users.
- Click the user to edit.
- Click the Access Control tab:
- Under the user groups tab, click Add:
- Under the User Groups header, select the user group(s) to assign the user to:
- Under the Access header, select the regions or sites in which the user can access the selected user groups. Clicking a parent option will automatically check all cascading child options:
In this example, the user would be granted access to the Logistics user group at all sites within the North America region, including all of those in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. - Click Save.
Note on region permission conflict in v6
Users can’t be assigned to a user group at a lower region when already assigned to a user group in its parent region (region permission conflict). For example, a user assigned to Managers in Canada can’t be assigned to Technicians in Toronto.
If you've encountered this conflict, try:
- Assign the user to the different user groups at the same level of region (Canada, United States, Mexico)
- Assign the user to each site individually (which appears as the lowest level of region)
