Meter readings can be recorded on multiple assets at once using a spreadsheet. Imported meter readings will not trigger scheduled maintenance or create new meter reading units, and so this process is best for users looking to transfer historical data.
To bulk upload meter readings:
Prepare your spreadsheet
To upload meter readings in bulk to the CMMS, you need a spreadsheet saved as a CSV file. You can create this manually, edit an existing spreadsheet, or use our template found in Data import overview.
The spreadsheet can have the following headers:
- Asset code*
- Asset name
- Date*
- Meter reading*
- Meter reading unit*
- Work order code
*Field is mandatory
Tips
Asset code: Asset codes that match assets in the CMMS will update those assets. Asset codes without matches will create new assets. Assets created in this way will only have the data included in the spreadsheet (code, name, meter readings) and its other data will need to be updated separately.
Date: We suggest using the date format mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm (e.g. 12/31/2026, 22:00), but the CMMS allows for multiple date formats and will ask which format is used in the spreadsheet during the complete import stage (see Accepted date formats below).
Meter reading unit: Use the full name of the meter reading unit (e.g. kilometers) instead of the abbreviation or symbol (e.g. kms). Meter reading units are not created during the import process. See Create new meter reading units to add new units before importing.
To prepare and save your spreadsheet:
- Create a spreadsheet with the above headers or use our template.
- Save the spreadsheet as a CSV file.
Upload the spreadsheet
To upload the spreadsheet to the CMMS:
- Navigate to Settings > Import and click Meter readings.
- Click Upload and select the CSV file from your device:
- Ensure that My Data Includes Headers is checked. If your spreadsheet has data only without headers, then uncheck this field.
- Click Continue.
Complete the import
After selecting your file and choosing Continue, the system will prompt you to adjust or fix the data:
- Click the Default units dropdown to choose the meter reading unit in the CMMS that matches the data from your spreadsheet:
- Click the Date time format dropdown to select the date format used in your spreadsheet (see Accepted date formats below). If you used the suggested date format in the first step, then select option 7:
- Click Continue.
- After the import completes, the confirmation page shows any errors encountered, and how the system will handle these errors. To cancel the import and re-upload an edited CSV file, click Back. To continue with errors included, click Import:
- In the summary confirmation window, click Done:
