Before you begin
If you're using v6 Equipment, it is currently not possible to generate a work order with a meter reading or event trigger.
Permissions: Access to scheduled maintenance
Most automobile manufacturers recommend you perform service for a vehicle at certain intervals, usually either at a certain mileage or after a year has passed (whichever event occurs first).
You can use scheduled maintenance to generate a work order for this service using either of these conditions as triggers.
To do this:
- In Maintenance > Scheduled Maintenance, click Create.
- Select the asset (the vehicle), the maintenance type (preventive), and enter any other information as needed:
- Navigate to the Scheduling tab.
- As either a specified mileage or time passed can be the trigger, select any of the triggers fire under Generate Work Order When:
- Create the yearly time-based trigger:
- Click the Add (
)button in the bottom left of the triggers list:
- Make sure Generate Work Order By Time Schedule is selected.
- Select Yearly, and enter "1" in the years field. For this example, we assume the vehicle is brand new, so the date entered is the date the vehicle was acquired.
- Make sure Fixed is selected, and optionally deselect Create Work Order On Start Date if you don't want a work order to be created right away.
Your trigger may look like this: - Click OK.
- Click the Add (
- Create the meter reading trigger for mileage:
- Click the Create button in the bottom left of the triggers list.
- Click Generate Work Order By Meter Reading.
- Specify the mileage and unit, and make sure No End Reading and Fixed Schedule are selected.
In the example below, the service will be performed every 15000 miles: - Click OK.
- Click Save in the top menu bar.
- Toggle on the scheduled maintenance record so that it says Running:
Your scheduled maintenance is now active, and will generate a work order when service is required for your vehicle.
