The Fiix CMMS uses ABC classification to classify parts. ABC classification is an inventory management technique that classifies inventory items based on their quantity and cost. For more information, please see Introduction to parts classification.
This article details the three ways to use ABC classification in the CMMS:
If you already have existing ABC classifications for your parts and supplies, you can import this data into the CMMS. Classifications can be imported into an existing or new part record.
Note
When importing, always test your data set with two to three part records before making mass data changes.
To import existing ABC classification data:
-
Create a CSV file with the headings "Part Name," "Part Code," and "ABC Classification," as shown below:
-
Navigate to Settings > Import.
-
Click Parts / Supplies:
-
Click Upload and select your file.
-
Make sure that the My Data Includes Headers checkbox is selected.
-
Click Continue.
-
Select your parts and supplies category from the Default Parts/Supplies Category drop-down list.
-
Select the corresponding field for each CSV file heading from the drop-down lists:
-
Click Continue.
-
Click Import.
-
Click Done.
You can manually input the ABC classification in a part record. You may want to do this if you do not have existing ABC classification data to import, want to make quick updates, or want to classify based on factors other than usage, and so on.
To manually input an ABC classification:
-
Navigate to Supplies > Parts And Supplies.
-
Open the part record you wish to modify.
-
Click the Cycle Count tab:
-
In the Abc Class section, click New:
-
Select your site from the Site drop-down list.
-
Click OK.
Repeat the steps above for the rest of your parts if needed.
If you would like to classify parts based on the usage data in the CMMS for an entire site, you may want to use the Inventory ABC Classification tool. This feature allows you to set your classification parameters and updates all part classifications based on usage over a specific timeframe.
To make mass ABC classifications with usage data:
-
Navigate to Settings > CMMS Settings.
-
Click Inventory ABC Classification:
-
Specify your Classification Parameters if needed. These include:
-
Class A outset: Class A's percentage of annual inventory expenditure
-
Class B outset: Class B's percentage of annual inventory expenditure
-
Class C outset: Class C's percentage of annual inventory expenditure
-
Annual Usage From: The start date for calculating annual usage
-
Annual Usage To: The end date for calculating annual usage
Note
Outset is calculated with usage data and the cost of each part.
-
-
Select the site for which you want to update part classifications.
-
Click Update.
-
Click OK.
Repeat steps 4-6 for the rest of your sites if needed.
