To classify parts, the Fiix CMMS uses ABC classification, an inventory management technique that classifies inventory items based on their quantity and cost. It allows maintenance teams to evaluate the importance of each item and plan their operations accordingly.
This technique is primarily used in cycle counting, which refers to only counting portions of an inventory. Rather than completing a physical inventory of all their items, maintenance teams that use cycle counting complete smaller, more regular counts according to their site's needs. For example, important parts will be counted more often, and vice versa.

There are three classes used in ABC classification:

Class A - These items are rarely used and lowest in number, but account for a large portion of annual expenditure. They are high-priority and vital to have in stock at all times.

Class B - These items are more frequently used than Class A items, and are a relatively small portion of your expenditure and inventory. They are also highly important.

Class C - These items are your day-to-day equipment and parts that account for the largest portion of your inventory, but the smallest portion of your expenditure.
Although specific values may vary, especially for percentage of inventory, the percentage of expenditure will typically be close to 80% for Class A, 15% for Class B, and 5% for Class C.
