Set up meter-based nested PMs

Meter-based nested PMs use meter reading intervals to determine when tasks should be performed, as opposed to time intervals. To learn more about nested PMs in general, see About nested PMs.

Setting up meter-based nested PMs consists of the following steps:

• Set up the scheduled maintenance record
• Create and assign meter-based nested PMs
• (Optional) Select a different starting iteration

Set up the scheduled maintenance record

Before implementing nested PMs, you need to configure some parts of the scheduled maintenance record (asset, trigger, and tasks).

To set up a scheduled maintenance record for nested PMs: 

1. In Maintenance > Scheduled Maintenance, either click the record you want to configure or create a scheduled maintenance record. 
   The record must at least have an asset.
2. In the Scheduling tab, click the Add button () and create the trigger that will be your first nested PM. 
   In the following example, this PM has an interval of 500 hours:
   
   Note: To avoid incorrect work order generation, only one trigger should be added on a scheduled maintenance record with nested PMs. 
3. Click OK.
4. In the Labor Tasks tab, create the tasks or add the task groups that need to be performed for these nested PMs. 
   Once this is done, move on to the next section. 

Create and assign meter-based nested PMs

Now that the scheduled maintenance record is ready, you can create your meter-based nested PMs and assign them to different tasks. 

To do this:

1. Navigate to the Nested PMs tab:
   
2. (Optional) Click the N1 PM and give it a summary in the Summary of PM field, then click OK.
3. To create a new nested PM, click the Add () button on the bottom left of the list:
   
4. Enter a summary in the Summary of PM field, specify the parent, and enter a multiplier:
   
   The example above has a multiplier of 3, and its parent is performed every 500 hours. As such, this PM will be performed every 1500 hours. To learn more about multipliers, see About nested PMs.
5. Click OK.
6. Repeat steps 4 to 6 as needed. 
7. Navigate to the Labour Tasks tab to assign nested PMs for each task. 
   By default, all tasks are assigned to N1. 
8. Click the task you want to assign a nested PM for.
9. Under Completion Details, click the Nested PM drop-down to open the Nested PMs window:
   
10. Select the nested PM for this task, and click OK.
11. Repeat steps 6-8 as needed. 
    If you need to assign multiple tasks at a time, you can do this by selecting their checkboxes in the task list and clicking the Update Checked button (), then specifying the nested PM for all selected tasks. 
12. Click Save, and make sure the scheduled maintenance record is set to Running.
    Your nested PMs are now ready:
    

(Optional) Select a different starting iteration

An iteration refers to a specific instance where the relevant trigger is set off and a work order is generated. To learn more, see Change the iteration for nested PMs.

By default, the scheduled maintenance record will begin with the first iteration of the nested PM. You can select another iteration for the nested PMs to begin with.

To do this:

1. Click the Change button above the nested PM list:
   
2. In the Nested PM View Modal, select the iteration you'd like to start with. For example, perhaps the meter already reads 1500 hours (following the example in the section above, this would be iteration 3):
   
3. Click Save.
