This article defines all of the permissions you can set for equipment. Most of these permissions can be assigned to roles or to user groups, depending on whether you want them to apply system-wide or by site. The table below notes any permissions that only apply to roles or to user groups. The following permissions are available for equipment:
Permission | Description |

Manage equipment |
This permission allows users to view, create, and edit equipment records. This includes associating meters with equipment, recording meter readings, and viewing and updating equipment statuses. To learn more about managing equipment, see the Manage equipment section. |
Limited manage equipment |
This permission allows users to view and edit existing equipment records, without allowing them to create new equipment records. To assign this permission, you must first clear the Manage equipment checkbox. To learn more about managing equipment, see the Manage equipment section. |
Manage settings |
This permission allows users to view, create, and delete equipment categories, statuses, and meter readings. Because these settings aren’t specific to individual sites, this permission is only available for roles. To learn more about managing settings, see the Equipment Settings section. |
Manage meters |
This permission allows users to view, create, and edit meters. If you want a user to be able to remove and delete meters as well, you would need to assign them the corresponding permissions below. To learn more about managing meters, see the Meters section. |
Record meter readings |
This permission allows users to record meter readings on equipment. Although some of the Manage permissions also allow users to record meter readings, you can use this permission to allow users to record meter readings without also allowing them to edit or create equipment records. To learn more about recording meter readings, see Record meter readings. |
Delete equipment |
This permission allows users to delete equipment records, but does not allow them to delete other types of records, like meters. If you want a user to be able to delete other types of records, either select the parent Delete checkbox to assign all delete permissions, or assign the other individual delete permissions described below. To learn more about deleting equipment, see Delete equipment. |
Delete status change record |
This permission allows users to delete the most recent status change from the maintenance log for a piece of equipment. For example, if a user accidentally saves the wrong status or reason, they could delete that status change from the equipment’s history. Remove meter association |
This permission allows users to remove a meter from an equipment record, but does not allow them to delete the meter altogether. If you want a user to be able to both remove and delete meters, assign this permission and the Delete meters permission. To learn more about removing meters, see Remove meters from equipment. |
Delete meters | This permission allows users to delete meters. To learn more, see Delete meters. |
Delete meter readings | This permission allows users to delete individual meter readings from equipment and meters. For example, if a user saves a reading that was entered incorrectly, they could delete the reading and re-enter the right one. To learn more about deleting meter readings, see Delete a past reading. |
View-only access |
This permission allows view-only access to equipment. This means that users won’t be able to manage, delete, or record meter readings. To assign this permission, you must first clear the checkboxes for all the other permissions. |
Default equipment permissions
Currently, only user groups have default permissions assigned. The following equipment permissions are automatically assigned to our default user groups:
