Create meters

To create a new meter:

1. In Assets > Equipment, click the Meters button:
   
2. Click Create:
   
3. In the Name field, enter a name for your meter.
4. In the Unit drop-down list, select the unit you want to use for your meter (kilometers, production hours, pounds, etc).
   

   Tip

   If the unit you want to use doesn’t already exist, you can create a new one in Equipment Settings. To learn more, see Create meter reading units. 

5. In the Type setting, do one of the following:
   • To configure the meter so that readings can only go in one direction (for example, where each new reading must be higher than the last one, such as with an odometer), click Unidirectional.
   • To configure the meter so that readings can go in either direction (i.e. each reading can be higher or lower than the last one, such as with a temperature gauge), click Bidirectional.
6. If you selected Undirectional as the Type, do one of the following:
   • To configure the meter so that each new reading must be higher than the last, click Ascending.
   • To configure the meter so that each new reading must be lower than the last, click Descending.
7. (Optional) If you selected Bidirectional as the Type, you can configure the lowest possible and highest possible readings using the Range fields.
8. (Optional) Do any of the following:
   • To specify a maximum difference between readings, enter a value in the Max Delta field.
     Setting a maximum delta can be helpful in preventing common mistakes when entering readings, such as entering one digit too many.
   • To allow users to enter readings outside the maximum delta, select the Reading above delta allowed checkbox.
     When this checkbox is selected, the app notifies users that the reading is outside the maximum delta, but still allows them to save it. When the checkbox is cleared, users can’t record readings that aren’t within the maximum delta.
   • To record an initial reading on this meter, enter it in the Initial Reading field.
9. Click Save.
