Audience: Administrators
Permissions: Requires the Asset Categories, Asset, and Assets page permissions. Only Administrators have access to custom categories by default.
Categories group assets (equipment, tools, and parts & supplies) and locations (facilities, sites, and regions) into an organizing structure that makes it easier to find what you need in the CMMS.
Create custom categories to add your own categories to the CMMS and arrange your assets in the way that best suits your organization.
Create custom categories
To create a custom category:
- Navigate to Settings > CMMS Settings > Asset Categories tab.
- Click Add New (
).
- Choose a name for the category:
- Select a Parent category. Your new category will live under the parent in the asset hierarchy:
- To add a barcode format to this asset category, choose the format from the drop-down menu. Select the format that best matches the category, what you're already using in your organization, or the scanner operating system your team uses:
- To apply the barcode to all categories under the assigned parent category, check the Apply barcode selection to all child categories box. This will update the barcode format for all children categories, including your new category, under the parent you specified:
- Click OK.
